Aims of the Façade Sector Joint Competency Initiative

BAM, ISG, Kier, Laing O’Rourke, Lendlease, MACE, Morgan Sindall, Multiplex, Sir Robert McAlpine, Sisk, Skanska and Wates have formed the Joint Competency Initiative (JCI), with the expressed aim of considering and agreeing what specific competencies, i.e. Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Behaviours (SKEB) specialist façade contractors and their Staff should possess.

To assist the JCI, the members have engaged with Stakeholders within the specialism, securing the support of the following organisations:

The Curtain Wall and Cladding Technology Centre (CWCT)

The Council for Aluminium in Building (CAB)

The Glass & Glazing Federation (GGF)

The National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC)

█ The Institute of Construction Management (ICM)

The Institute of Roofing (IoR)

The Society of Façade Engineers (SFE)

The Metal Cladding and Roofing Manufacturers Association (MCRMA)

Manufacturers including Schuco, Hydro Group, Kawneer, Siderise, Kingspan, Sotech, Ash & Lacy and
BTS have also been approached to canvas their views on the knowledge gap in the Sector.

Specialist subcontractors and other Stakeholders will be canvassed during the 2nd and 3rd Quarters of 2022 and into 2023.

Ultimately, the JCI and the Stakeholders will consider the formation of a Relevant Authority to undertake independent assessment and reassessment against the competence standards and the skills, experience and behaviours set by the JCI
