Foundation Level

Skills:

  • Conduct basic fire safety assessments and simple fire door inspections under supervision.
  • Identify risks in low-risk premises and apply proportional solutions following relevant guidance.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and colleagues using oral, written, or electronic methods.
    Plan and schedule tasks to meet client expectations and deadlines with support.

Knowledge:

  • Understand fundamental principles of fire safety, fire risk assessment, and relevant legislation for low-risk building
  • Maintain awareness of core fire safety concepts and updates through research and supervised practice
  • Recognise the limitations of own knowledge, escalating complex issues appropriately.
    Familiar with key regulations (e.g., Approved Document B) and basic operational standards for fire doors.

Experience:

  • Typically, 0 to 2 years fire safety related experience, including exposure to fire-rated door
    sets.
  • Learning under supervision and gaining practical experience through routine
    inspections or assessments in low-risk environments.
  • Applying knowledge with guidance and reflecting on outcomes to develop decision-
    making skills.

    fire safety ethical standards• Open to feedback, willing to seek assistance, and conscientious in work execution.
  • Respectful of diversity and sensitive to the needs of others in communication and
    collaboration
  • Verification of the appropriate professional indemnity and public liability insurance; the
    insurance must explicitly cover the named individual or company, against the specific
    fire door inspection tasks and align with the RP’s own insurance obligations related to
    fire safety and notifiable works within their buildings

CPD Recommendation:

  • Minimum 20 hours annually to maintain competence and prepare for the Intermediate level
    progression
  • Activities including training, mentoring, reading technical journals, and undertaking supervised
    practical work.
