ICM Members, Stakeholders, and all ...
As the construction sector steps into the dynamic year of cultural change, The Institute of Construction Management welcomes you to a transformative era where safety takes center stage. In the rich tapestry of our institute's history, dating back to its foundation in 1842, we have witnessed the evolution of the construction industry from the craftsmanship of the mid-1800s to the digital age we navigate today.
Our journey, guided by early craft builders, foremen, and clerks of works, has seen the industry through national federations, mergers, provident associations, culminating in 1974 with the enactment of The Health and Safety at Work Etc. Act and the establishment of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). In 1975, the current name of The Institute of Construction Management was registered and in 1978 was incorporated at Companies House with Member of Parliament Marcus Fox MBE MP as our first Governor
Fast forward to the last three decades, marked by significant milestones. Since the incorporation of EU Directive 92/57/EEC into UK law as the CDM Regulations, ICM's members have played pivotal management roles in shaping the industry's safety landscape
In 2010 introducing the CDM Register providing a platform for Planning Supervisors to affiliate, learn, share, and improve. Recognizing the need for a unified understanding of competence, our 2017 research group took the initiative to establish a registered trademark for CDM competence, leading to the launch of the CDM Competence Registry™® in 2018
In collaboration with RESIBUILD EVENTS, we hosted the "Vision Construct 2023" conference and exhibition at Wembley Stadium in Q3 2023. This event witnessed the launch of the Knowledge Partnership with Sysmax and the unveiling of the Sector Competence Platform PAS8671/2/3:2022 Trilogy™ - a groundbreaking one-stop-shop approach.
ICM is addressing industry challenges, emphasizing the protection of unsecured creditors and sub-contractors to restore trust. In the latter part of 2023, we took a bold step towards ethical banking, aligning our values with our commitment to the industry by moving our banking to The Co-operative Bank
As a not-for-profit body and registered charity through good ethical banking we will seek to make every return benefit the industry we serve.
In becoming a part of the Construction Industry Council, the ICM ensures representation at the top table, supporting the CIC in its forward journey. ICM Fellows and Registered Members bring a wealth of rich knowledge into the industry and are encouraged to represent the ICM on the many committees that are within the CIC [please get in contact]
Wishing you all a Happy New Year as we embark on a year of innovation, collaboration, and unwavering commitment to a safer and more responsible construction industry.
Best Regards to you all,
The Institute of Construction Management editorial team
